The walk is not difficult although the pathways can be uneven and rocky in places.
I have broken this walk up into 3 sections.
- 1. Cala Estaban [also known as Cala Esteve] to Algaufar, Purple route.
- 2. Onto Cala Alcaufar beach for lunch, swim etc, Red route.
- 2, Onto S'Algar for lunch, swim etc, Green route.
Route 1 Purple.
Starting at the car park overlooking Cala Estaban, cross the road and take the path down into the Cala. Follow the road towards a white villa set under the cliffs on the corner. The main path starts just to the left, follow it up and over the cliff. The pathway from here on is easy to follow, as you walk the majority of the way between dry stone walls with wooden posts markers every few hundred meters. The total length is approximately 4.5 kilometers and shouls take between one and one and a half hours. The path cuts through the menorcan countryside with the occasional view over the sea and country houses. There are 2 or 3 gates on the route, please make sure they are closed as livestock are kept in some of the fields you walk through.
When you arrive at the Sant Lluis <-> S'Algar road you have a choice of:-
Route 2 Red.
Continue onto Cala Alcaufar beach where you can have lunch and a swim [0.8 Km]
Route 3 Green.
Continue onto S'Algar [0.7 Km]. where you have a greater choice of bars and restaurants plus a lido on the sea front.
The walk can easily be taken in reverse, starting on the Sant Lluis <-> S'Algar road walking to Cala Estaban, having a picnic lunch on the edge of the cala and returning back to the start. Please note there are no shops of other facilities in Cala Estaban, just a very picturesque Cala.
What to take:
Good walking shoes, sun hat, sun cream, a large bottle of water, and a picnic.
