Parking in Santa Ana
Parking in Santa Ana
Hello,
I have read on TripAdvisor that parking in Santa Ana is going to be residents only in the afternoons from this summer. That's going to cause us a problem if it's true, as we rent an apartment there.
Can anyone shed more light on this?
Thanks in advance,
BB

Re: Parking in Santa Ana
Yes this is correct. Parking will be for residents of Es Castell only at certain times of the day. I understand some sort of pass will be issued by the town hall. Full details have not been released yet. Some temporary ones will be issued for people staying in hotels.

Many thanks for the prompt reply, much appreciated. I'll let the owners of the apartment know.

Re: Parking in Santa Ana
For four months, from June 1 to September 30, only residents of Es Castell will be able to park between 6 pm and 12 midnight in practically the entire urban area of the town. The proposal that arises from the municipality's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan will become a reality this summer, since the City Council approved in its last plenary session, with the votes of the majority of the left-wing PSOE-Som, the ordinance that restricts parking on the road to visitors. This restriction will not affect public service vehicles, emergency vehicles, reduced mobility, loading and unloading, motorcycles and bicycles.
Although initially the urbanization of Santa Anna was included in the area for residents only, now, after consultations with merchants and the request made by the PP, it is left out. The border will be calle Sant Josep, where only registered residents will be able to park; A first stretch of Calle Llevant, up to the junction with Llebeig, is also considered an urban area and therefore restricted. From there, the rest of the development will be open to foreign parking. The idea is "to divert people who come from outside to the parking lots on the perimeter" of the town, said the mayor, Joana Escandell, during the debate, "we are not removing any parking, but rather it is regulated and relocated", he explained.
"It is not a magical solution but for four months we will try it, if it does not go well next year it will not be done, but we have the opportunity to try it, we believe it is a good idea", added Escandell, who throughout his speeches criticized the opposition, PP and PI, that "so far nothing has been done" to solve parking problems in high season.
The initiative seeks to reduce in summer the circulation of vehicles through the town that seek to park and then go to the main area of bars and restaurants, Calesfonts. "Those of us who go or live there see rental cars going around and this movement is to be avoided," said Som councilor Óscar Gómez.
For his part, the PP spokesman, Jaime Fedelich, charged against the mobility plan for not having agreed and being "riddled with errors", and assured that "I don't think it has the weight to decide the future of Es Castell". The mayor expressed concern about the fact that the pressure of cars seeking parking is transferred to the private plots that are used as parking areas in Fontanilles, where residents now park and that in summer, with the restriction in the center, they will be occupied by visitor vehicles. Also the mayor of the PI, Florencio Conde, believed that "before prohibiting solutions should be given so that people can park."

Re: Parking in Santa Ana
That is such good news! Without the ability to park in Santa Ana we may have had to cancel our stay.
Thank you.

Re: Parking in Santa Ana
I predict some chaos in Es Castell tomorrow evening. That's when the new parking restrictions come into effect. 18:00 to midnight will be for residents only. Signs for informing tourist are very limited and only in Catalan. We will wait to see how the local police will enforce it.

Re: Parking in Santa Ana
Does anyone know whether the A3 category for 'second home owners' is valid if you don't actually own a car but have a rental vehicle? Can't quite work out the small print from the information posted by the Ajuntament.
Appreciate they are trying to control the traffic in the village during the summer months and technically we are 'visitors' but technically we are residents (with NIEs and paying council tax etc.) not just dropping in for a 'night down the Fons'.

Have just read that they're giving a 15 day 'holiday' from tomorrow when the police will only 'educate' and not fine but after that............
