Which resort?????

Post by Magic Mazza » July 8th, 2019, 9:30 am

We've never been to Menorca before, both early/mid seventies, reasonably fit and young at heart. We like walking, probably 5 miles, not too hilly, love woods and lovely views. Go on the beach occasionally but not daily as would book somewhere with a pool.
We've looked at resorts near Ciutadella for buses as we will not be hiring a car, but also like the look of Son Bou (would we be bored!!)and Punta Prima for the walks.
Is one end of the island really different from the other? Any help would be appreciated, want to get it right for our first visit.

Punta prima have some lovely walks along the Cami de Cavalls, follow it about half hour or so to the next resort to Cala Algafar have a drink at the bar on the beach or go the other way to Biniancola or a bit further to Binibeca, you can then get the little land train for a ride back, buses run from Punta Prima to Mahon passing through Sant Llouis, we are thinking of staying in Punta Prima this year at the Hotel Xaloc, be aware though if you enjoy swimming in the sea Punta Prima have some very strong under currents at times.
I only let him think he's in charge.

Hi

If you like woods and lovely views I'd recommend somewhere near Cala Galdana, as you can walk along the Cami De Cavalls along the coast/through the woods to Cala Macarella/Macarelleta, Mitjana, Turqueta, which are some of the most picturesque coves on the island (and Galdana is also very pretty too)! There are a few hilly bits along the paths (but nothing too drastic).

It depends on what time of year you're planning to visit though, as walking in the heat of July/Aug can be exhausting, so the Autumn and Spring months are usually better.

We've got a place in Son Bou and although it's a good base if you've got a car, I'm not sure it's what you're looking for. You can walk along the beach to Santo Tomas, or the other way to Cala En Porter (but that's quite hilly), but if it's pretty views and woods you're looking for you may be disappointed, as it's all about long beaches in that area.

Thankyou for your replies. Its good to hear from people that know the area. Still no decision made but we're getting nearer. We'll be there in May so hoping it will be a nice temperature for walking- wherever we end up!!
