Just returned from Arenal at the weekend. The choice of resturants was much the same as last time apart from Kanes has closed. The quality and choice of food was not as good as last time. Smithys and japi were not as good quality and it was quite expensive to eat out at lunch time and evening. Sa Gavina was as good as ever although a little more expensive than others but well worth the extra Euros! on first checking the menu there appears to be a small choice on the menu :toasting: but I feel there would be something for everyone and the service was first class and welcoming, definitely worth a visit or two.

We only went there once (as we usually made our own lunch) but it was nice and according to some friends they make the best sangria ever  . I did taste it and it was nice but I am not a big fan of sangria so you all better try it yourself.

Red Bar on the Beach, a warm welcome, good food with a hint or more of spanish if you want it, excellent fish dishes, excellent atmosphere overlooking the water at night - memories

Hi all,

Has anyone tried the "new" Japi Bar? Since Kiko shut up shop we've continued to support him at the Flamingo in Coves Noves but I'd be interested to hear of anyones experience of the Japi.

Regards,

Mike

the service and food isnt the same as previously and we walk to the flamingo even though the Japi is only 2 minutes away.

at the Japi in june we had a cava sangria and the fruit consisted of a tin of fruit cocktail complete with syrup rendering the cava flat - the fruit was all them little square bits of peach, pear and pineapple along with the anaemic cocktail cherries. The stuff your mum used to give you when you were kid !

may have changed now but judging by the amount of customers in august i think not

Thanks for the response. When we were over in July the Japi was empty. I can see why!!

Mike

We returned from Arenal a few weeks ago and were really looking forward to visiting the Japi Bar on our first night after hearing it had opened again. The Japi was very quiet for high season and the food quality was not good! The selection on the menu has reduced and they didn't seem to be too flexible with choice! We ate there twice during our visit and found it quite expensive, pizza for 4 and fries for the little one as he didn't like anything there and 2 rounds of soft drink and 2 desserts came to around 80 euros which we thought was expensive, not sure what others would think.

Loved our stay in Arenal but mite be priced out of our range soon with 3 children.

Sa Gavani was the best restuarant in the resort again, although a little more expensive I would rather pay 20 euros more for a fab meal and the waiter always remembers you from previous years and makes the children feel special.

I have to agree about El Pescador in Fornells, fantastic food and service and probably the most reasonable restaurant in the town too.
The roast suckling pig is devine.
It can also get very busy especially on Saturday nights so do as I do and ring and reserve, Habla en Ingles, por favor?
El Pirate in Coves Noves also very good as is the Scorpion opposite.
Love El Mirador for the beer and tv, Toni and staff excellant and the pool keeps the kids cool too.
We are going back on 10th August so looking forward to it, 17 days of pure bliss, does it come any better than Menorca?

Love the island!!
