A great time!

Post by sunfun » October 18th, 2011, 4:26 pm

   We had a brilliant time on holiday in cala blanca! Some rain the first day, then sun,sun and more sun! Couple of windy days, courtesy of the tramontana, but didn't put us off.
The last few days must have been about 30 degrees! Absolutely wonderful!
We were a bit wary about the prices, but were pleasantly surprised as it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it was going to be,which was great! :finga:
Whether the prices drop later in the season or not,i don't know, but we were quite happy.
Went to ciutadella by bus and also walked it twice, once by the coast road, the second time we went the main road...and walked onto cala'n' forcat! Can't believe it!
We also walked the cavalls road to cap de truix and then onto cala n bosch. Thoroughly enjoyed the walking and hope to keep it up!
Cala Blanca is a great base to go to other places and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Shopped mainly at julias, which was quite good for prices. Also went to ciutadella market and got stuff from butchers for the barbie and also greengrocers.
Didn't eat out as much as we usually do on holiday, was quite happy to cook.
Tried nautilus twice, once when we arrived. Weeren't impressed, but gave it another go for brekkie...then didn't go back.
Tried jenny's once,it was bloody awful!
Laurel & Hardy for a set meal which wasn't bad and excellent value with good service. Il Vespro 3 times, but should have tried more places,in hindsight. It was nice seeing the sunset but the food wasn't anything special. Ate in cala n bosch once as well. Had a few barbecues and made a chilli sauce to go with albondigas from the butchers, which we had with pasta and bread a couple of times.
Really enjoyed ourselves. Couldn't believe the quality of the wine for the price. Great to get 7 up light...half price as well!   We are deffo menorca fans! :finga:
Didn't bother with bars much...we had our own! :finga:
Planning to go back next year, but thinking of trying the south coast to do the walks down there.
We don't want to drive,so any tips/advice would be welcomed.Something near supermarkets/restaurants,not too far to walk to.
Also want to hire a small villa with pool...and have been looking already!
Thanks for all the help and tips folks! Much appreciated.

Il Vespro is not one of the best places for food in Cala Blanca. We have tried it several times and always come away disappointed. We tried it again this time, seduced by the new chairs, fairy lights and sunset but the food isn't the best. Mirabel has raised it's game food wise considerably in the last couple of seasons. We ate there several times on both of our trips to Cala Blanca this year and last and it is really excellent. Next season seems a long way away!!!
