Re: Home ownership advice

Hi I must say it doesn't sound as if your Abogado was very helpful! Most of this should've been sorted by them when you purchased your property. I do hope that they checked all outstanding bills (IBI Tax etc. on the property) had been paid up to date before you bought it, as you would also be liable...

Re: Binibeca

Well, I think the rare hot UK summer certainly had something to do with fewer tourists  However, there are other factors involved, such as the poor exchange rate, extortionate car hire and rising costs of dining out. Following 2017's bumper year for tourism on the island, the money-grabbing Me...

Re: CAR HIRE

We stopped using Hiper several years ago, when their fuel policy became an obvious way of ripping you off. They started charging close to 100 Euros for a full tank in a Corsa, but like Slarti says it's probably more than that now

Sorry, gone a bit blind! You did say you weren't a resident yet didn't you?

Re: Paying taxes?

Hi Phil I've also posted under the Home Ownership thread with regards to other bills you'll need to sort. You don't say whether your property is a holiday home or whether you're now a Menorcan resident. I can only answer from the holiday home point of view I'm afraid. I don't know where your propert...

Re: Home ownership advice

Hi I take it your bi-annual (April and Aug) bills to the local Ajuntament (council tax, bin emptying etc.) have been set up to be paid by direct debit? This is something we had issues with for several years after we first bought our apartment, as it had supposedly been sorted out by our solicitor, w...

Re: Paying taxes?

Hi You should receive an annual bill, which needs to be paid by the end of the year. Our bill was initially posted to us by our abogado Joaquin Comas in Mahon (the solicitor we used to purchase our property). However, after paying this bill for several years, we realised we were being completely rip...

Re: CAR HIRE

Cheers for the recommendations! We've already tried Don Cars and Sol Cars and tbf both were on a par with Poppy with regards to customer service etc. Sol Cars do offer a regular's discount, but only if you pay upfront at the start of the year, which is not something we've done before :???: I think I...

Re: CAR HIRE

Yes, we discovered this earlier on in the year, I believe a Menorca couple have taken over. Unfortunately the takeover has impacted upon the prices we used to pay as 'regular renters' and we're now having to shop around to find a better deal. When we emailed Poppy Cars to cancel our summer, Septembe...

Re: Calan Porter versus San Bou

Hi We've got a place in Son Bou and I don't think SB is more commercialised than CnP. I'd say they're on a par really, both essentially being tourist resorts/urbanisations. There may seem more activity during the day, (when you visited), because the beach is much larger than CnP (with various water-...
