Re: Shop report

As far as I can see there is and has not been a shortage of anything in any of the food shops around Es Castell or Mahon since before lockdown or after. In fact I would say the opposite in some shops. Lidl seems to have massive amounts of stock, although I don’t buy their meat, I save that for the S...

Re: Cost to refill swimming pool

I used these guys a couple of years ago when I had a problem with my well and needed to fill my tank. I can’t remember exactly how much it cost but it was no more than €80 for a full tanker. It was much cheaper than I thought it was going to be.

Re: Shipping goods to Menorca

I’ve just sent 7 large boxes to Menorca (53cm x 53 x 41) up to 30kg in each box for £20 per box, which I thought was very good value. Sent on Thursday and they are due to arrive in Menorca on 4 March so only a week. I used interparcel who act a comparison site and the best price was with DPD couriers.

Re: Trying to start a new life in Menorca

Unfortunately your story sounds all to familiar. It sounds like you should have obtained a ‘small works licence’ prior to starting any work. This can be obtained from Es Castell town hall. To me these licenses seem like a bit of a stealth tax but are essential, as you have now found out. If you have...

Re: Banca March

I changed to Caixa Bank in Es Castell and so far they have been really good. It used to take upto 24hrs, sometimes more, to transfer money from the UK to Banca March. I did a transfer a few days ago into Caixa and it took 9 seconds to arrive.

Re: Property Management - Binibeca area

There are many property management companies around the south east corner of the island. Have you looked at www.mehocaserveis.com/ run by Ken and Carol Toomey. Not the cheapest but then you get what you pay for. As far as flooring goes....if I was you I’d stick with tiles. I’ve seen different types ...

Re: PADI Diving

I wouldn’t worry to much about finding or using a PADI dive centre. I started my dive career with BSAC about 30 years ago, I then did some courses with a PADI school and but most of my qualifications are now through SSI. They’re making it all very interchangeable between the different federations. I...
